SYNOPSIS

Successful architect Robert Kant, a breathless manager for major projects in the Far East, wants to jet off to Shanghai for a business meeting with his ambitious partner and future wife Lotta. When checking in, he notices that important papers are missing and has to return to the office. For lack of a cab, he gets hold of an abandoned rental car and hits the gas. In the process, Teresa, a potter, is involved in a serious accident: a complete load of valuable ceramic tableware is broken, but miraculously no one is injured. Teresa would like to know the insurance number of her accident opponent, but he has lost his memory and doesn’t even remember his name. The police simply call him Cheng – that was the name of the last tenant of his rental car. Since the confused man doesn’t know where to go, Teresa takes him in for the time being. The single mother turns out to be a real mess. She suffers notoriously from financial problems, is moody, and can well do without the wise advice of her new roommate. Nevertheless, the two are magically attracted to each other: they even like the same jokes. For Teresa’s bright children Max and Lisa, Cheng soon becomes a kind of father substitute. When Robert returns to the scene of the accident and finds his ID card, he is no longer sure that he wants to go back to his old life…
