SYNOPSIS
A health insurance card makes the start: quickly handed over, not thought about. Andreas, an architect, helps his unemployed friend Markus out of a temporary emergency without risking anything himself. He thinks. But the emergency is not temporary and the risk is great. Markus is seriously ill and not insured, Andreas has a job, wife and child, and a lot to lose. Should he help him along? Go through with the scam that Markus is being treated in his name. If the fraud is exposed, Andreas is the big loser. If not, he is the hero he always wanted to be. Everything goes well for a while. Then the complications begin. Andreas has to give more than he can, and he has to stand by his decisions, with all the consequences. Does he have to? Doesn’t he bear responsibility for his family first and foremost? Shouldn’t Markus have taken care of himself? What begins as a small act of friendship thus becomes a life decision. A film about friendship and responsibility, about solidarity and self-worth and about survival in the times after “prosperity for all”.
