Police officer Carlos Benede has met many children who have been victims of crime at the Victim Protection Unit. But the case of eleven-year-old Alex, who witnessed his father murder his mother, changes Benede’s life. The serious and precocious Alex comes to trust the fun-loving Benede, who himself grew up as a foster child. Benede’s job is to prepare the boy to testify at his father’s trial. After Alex’s father is sentenced to life in prison, Benede’s jurisdiction over the boy is effectively over. But Alex wants a father who is like the police officer who took care of him….
